Objectives
The expedition has two major objectives:
1. To accomplish an unsupported polar expedition to The Geographic North Pole with the purposes:
- To provide accessible data and stimulus for the above mentioned classroom resources, which students can interact with and easily relate to
- To gather scientific data, particularly in relation to physiology and the effects of endurance
- To push physical and psychological boundaries of personal achievement.
2. To provide students and teachers in the classroom with exciting resources, with the purposes of:
- Encouraging deeper insight into human nature and social interaction through exposure to fundamental issues such as self awareness, trust, motivation, communication, encouragement and personal development
- Inspiring outdoor activity and in this way working towards combating the worrying trend toward inactivity and obesity in youth across the UK
- Providing inspiration and motivation for young people through leading an example in decisively pursuing ambitious personal goals
- Stimulating curiosity and enthusiasm for the natural world, subsequently encouraging students to value the natural world and its diversity
- Increasing the students’ appreciation for the complexity of the issues associated with climate change.
